UPDATE: The Thimbleweed Park Dev Blog is now live.
I have good news and bad news.
First the good news.
The good news is that we just started production on Thimbleweed Park 2, due out in early 2028.
We will self-publish with the help of a private investor.
Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone, and others from the original team will be back!
I’ll be starting up a Thimbleweed Park 2 dev blog like we did for Thimbleweed Park and posting regularly to keep everyone up to date.
Now the bad news
There is no bad news, it’s all good news.
P.S. Thimbleweed Park 1 is on sale on Steam, Switch, iOS and Google. But I suspect all my readers already own it.
P.P.S. Steam doesn’t show it yet, but there will be Mac, Windows and Linux.
P.P.P.S. There will be a GOG version.
P.P.P.P.S. There will be a Switch version.
P.P.P.P.P.S. Steve Kirk is coming back as composer.
Comments:
That's half the fun!
The only bad thing is: now I can't wait for 2028
So hyped
Tovi, french game dev / composer sound designer
We forgot. Too much to do this morning.
Thank you so much for creating all this fun great games!
You have to talk to David Fox about that.
> I can't imagine how you're going to make a sequel considering how the first one ended
It's not like he hasn't got a fair amount of experience by now in recontextualizing what you *thought* you saw in an ending...
Can’t wait!
Alright Ron, I'm ready to be mindblown.
Gerade jetzt erst gelesen!
Bin dabei!
Really nice btw, in 2028 it doesnt matter.
Also, am I correct in assuming this is just gonna be like an alternate universe rather than an actual sequel? Kind of like, say, the Three Stooges shorts, where the characters remain the same but the world is different every time?
Fortunately, the yes votes won.
To celebrate this occasion, I'm wearing my Thimbleweed Park t-shirt.
Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
The original is quite possibly the best adventure game of the last 15 years.
Hopefully the sequel will have strong puzzle design like the original and RtMI and not too simplified like so many modern adventures.. but I have faith in mr. Gilbert and the team.
Said with the utmost respect and admiration for this ridiculously talented team. I'm just a little too traumatized by meta endings at this point.
Had given up on this.
Finally a game I can put on wishlist.
Good luck and all the best with the production over the next year or two!
MORE RON FREAKING GILBERT! We're so back!
ANd yeah NGL the ending of the first left me there, empty and lost.
I CANNOT wait for this- which means I will very diligently wait without making a fuss.
What about a Physical version? I have the box of the first one and it;s *delicious*!
Anyways lots of love, like really a LOT.
Keep up the great work and OMFG I love today.
You made my day/week/year/decade
I also loved the TP development podcast so keeping an ear open if that is also returning.
one question though: will steve kirk do the soundtrack again? i loved his work and i still listen to TWP OST.
Happy to hear about the new game, though! Wishlisted.
Is the game keeping the same engine? same retro-style?
Question: Will be a box/ signed/ special version like you did for the 1st game?
COngratulations and THANK YOU
A massive thank you to Ron Gilbert, for the first game! I absolutely loved it, especially the ending.
(Monkey Island 2's ending trained me.....)
I thoroughly enjoyed your TWP1 dev blog, and I'm excited to follow along with this one as well!
We played TP on the beach in Tahiti on our honeymoon in Dec 2018, so it looks like I know what we’re doing on our 10-year anniversary! (Maybe this time with slightly fewer layovers…)
Hopefully we can "look at" people this time, I was sad this was missing from the first game. Assuming there are verbs still.
can't believe it. I thought, that you were a bit disappointed about the commercial success of the first game, but i'm happy to read, that someone with money believes in you(The game WAS and IS great). Love you, Ron and wish you and your team the very best. Please take your time and don't forget to take pauses :)
Very much looking forward to it.
Will our speck of dust collection be importable from the first game, or will we have to start from scratch?
You just made my day, what am I saying? My year! After quite some setbacks this year nothing was really cheering me up but this news?
Man this is great!
I have replayed Thimbleweed Park at least 20 times on my Switch and still I'm loving every new round!
Thank you for making this possible, hopefully a Switch release is possible as well but for now I hit that wishlist and follow button on Steam so hard it might be broken now.
Massively looking forward to this!
Here's hoping for a big box release eventually.
Cant wait
Thank you you made my childhood love you so much
(I still have the first game in shrink wrap and signed by David. Perhaps I should open it to celebrate?)
Especially heartwarming to see Gary joining in again- I’ve missed listening to him in the TWP dev podcast.
No!!
Thanks!
Looking forward to another game in that universe.
If feasible, I hope there is a Switch version too!
Wonder if there will also be an „P.P.P.P.P.S. There will be a Playstation version.“
I will buy it for multiple platforms anyway again :-)
Thx Ron!!
Furthermore as a collector I would love a physical (collectors) edition of part 2 as well!
Also, thx for all the games. Monkey Island is one of the absolute greats. Loved "Return" quite a lot. Hoping for more!
Much love from Brazil.
He's a legend and seeing him attached to this sequel, err prequel, err parallel universe, made me gush.
His work on TP1 was great. Obviously there are 3 other composers we know well in the Ron Gilbert history books that could join on if needed.
great news, everyone
Will there be a physical Big Box edition for collectors?
Or will it keep the exact same visual style and game interface?
My point is that I think that there were really really nice improvements made for RtMI in regard to the interaction with objects (2 dynamic actions, contextual and unique to each object, instead of a fix list of verbs), and the integrated hint system, that would be nice to have back for TP2.
I guess it's silly to ask these questions now, since those are things you want to still discuss with your team. Man, I would love to be a fly on the wall during those discussions, like the podcast made me feel a bit back in TP1!
I hope the promotional tour in Berlin will become a regular part of the schedule again. I still have such fond memories of it!!
Greetings from Germany
Björn
Jokes aside, I think we’re in for quite the game-a-Reno. Rock on Ron 🤘
This is like a big family coming back together. Thanks for giving us another present to the world! Already wishlisted it, now (im)patiently waiting for 2028 to come but also looking forward to the blog.
Don't make yourself sick about it and keep yourself in good health, everybody (the ones who create and the ones who wait).
Also: Hi Zak + Others, whom I have met in Munich at the Thimbleweed Park meeting back in ... oh my, long ago! (Speaking of meeting - will something like that happen again? sign me up if so!)
I’m so happy to see you making more games… your LucasArts games were a huge influence on me as a teenager. Day one purchase for me.
Also, there were like 15 or so verbs or so in MM and ZMcK. They reduced them to 12, then 9, then 3 during Full Throttle / MI3, that became kinda contextual (Mouth could be both Talk to or Eat, for example, depending on the target).
The evolution to RtMI dynamic, purely contextual actions is so natural. Rather than the verb list being disjointed from the object, the object offers a verb list, and the list doesn't need to be the of same verbs, but whatever expression tells the best joke. That was genius. To turn the verb interface into the dialog interface, basically.
But I will be happy with whatever they come up with!
Fingers crossed for the return of the development podcast, I used to listen to that thing religiously.
I had similar feeling regarding the interface of RtMI. It worked nicely and is definitely possible to reduce the number of verbs to just two but it feels a bit "too reduced" for me. I liked the interface of Delores Mini-adventure because it allowed more actions per item and it could be useful in some situations.
However, I have to agree with "But I will be happy with whatever they come up with!" =)
Can't wait.🤗
Didn’t see that one coming. Super excited. And great to have the A team back together
Curious how the story will continue, but seeing how you guys handled RTMI im confident it will be great
Thanks, first for the game itself... 💙
And also for the coming months probably filled with previews, insights, good vibes build-up 💙
Can't wait-a-reno. THANK YOU!
It's like when you send away for the cereal box prize and it shows up in the mail years later.
Reminder 2 to myself: do this before 2028 :)
I even sent an GIF of excitement to my wife who can't understand the pure joy this news gave me :D
Of course, I hadn’t expected a sequel (?) either.
If it’s possible to participate in the tests, please, please let us know. Taking part in the beta tests for Death by Scrolling was incredibly fun.
Will Terrible Toybox be posting additional roles needed for the project on their career page in the near future, or is the full team already assembled for now?
I'm looking forward to hearing updates about the game regardless, and thank you for all the great games you've made thus far.
Excited about this, and as a fellow dev, curious about the tech stack you'll use this time. I expect productivity will be greatly boosted by AI agents, eh? 😁
I promise I will play through it without looking at any hints, just like the first one (there were one part, where I was lost for a whole week... 😁).
Thanks for making the first one an Xbox Play Anywhere title; excited to give it a go on my handheld during an upcoming flight.
Can't wait, the original took me back to all the great adventure games of the 90s.
Thanks!
I have 3 questions...
1. Will Boris do the german translation again for 1$?
2. What about german dubbing?
3. Is there at least an idea of potentially releasing a physical version?
Best regards from germany!
What about local co-op gaming on a single screen?
After all, there are two agents.
It would be great to come up with puzzles that require two players to work together. Greetings from P-Body and Atlas (-; .
That would be amazing!
I played TP1 on Gog and few minutes after the announcement I started playing on Steam to prepare for TP2.
Best wishes!
Cool that the others will be back too, including Jenn! I met her in the GDC and loved her talk about production.
Thanks for all these years of inspiration and for keeping it coming our way!
Now that the World Cup’s over I have something to look forward to!
Ron+Gary+David = Best Team Ever!
can we the fans send you money to apear in the game (phone book etc) as it was in kickstarter for thimbleweed park 1?
Yours truly,
Largo
Scab Island
Loadsa love,

Wasn’t expecting you to work on this, but much looking forward to it, TWP’s universe offered a lot of interesting character developments, and I hope you stay true to your nihilistic approaches ;-).
Also, btw., thanks for RtMI, which offered me the chance to play it with my youngest son. You give us memories, there is nothing more important than that.
Finally
- bring the OST of Thimble 1 to GOG
- bring the achievements of Thimble 1 to GOG
- fix the RTMM achievements on GOG
